The Delta Hospital Foundation is the public face and philanthropic arm of Delta Hospital – bridging a generous community with an outstanding community hospital.

The Foundation is dedicated to ensuring the best health care possible for our community. Since its creation and through generous support, over $23 million has been raised towards updating medical equipment and facilities at Delta Hospital.
 
Accountable for the overall performance as well as the day‐to‐day operations The Executive Director provides vision, leadership and advice to the Board, and attends to the day‐to‐day management of all matters associated with the business of the Delta Hospital Foundation in the capacity of chief staff officer. In this, the Executive Director ensures that the Foundation meets its targets and successfully achieves the Foundation’s goals and objectives, attaining year‐after‐year growth in accordance with the Foundation’s strategic plan, business plan, and budget.
 
The Executive Director will report to the Board of Directors through the Board Chair. The Executive Director will lead a team of Foundation staff and work closely with a wide variety of volunteers and stakeholder groups.
 
As the ideal candidate you are an excellent communicator with a proven track-record as an accomplished fundraising professional.  Complementing your hands-on fundraising experience is a degree in business, marketing or a related field. Known for cultivating and developing successful relationships with major donors and sponsors and with your well-developed network of contacts in the area of fund development, you have spearheaded success in the areas of major gifts, sponsorship, grant writing, corporate donations, annual giving and major capital campaigns.
 
Specifically, the Executive Director will carry out the following activities:
  

 Leadership 
  • Promote a collaborative, high performing organizational culture that fosters passion for the mission, teamwork, and a shared purpose
  • Foster effective team work between the Board and the Executive Director and between the Executive Director and staff team
  • Support collaborative efforts between Delta Hospital Foundation, Delta Hospital staff and administration, Delta Hospital Auxiliary and Fraser Health
  • Act as the primary representative of the Foundation to promote philanthropy within the community
  •  Represent Delta Hospital Foundation at the Fraser Health Foundation Council

Financial Management
 
  • Manage the foundation’s finances through sound bookkeeping and effective financial controls
  • Consistently deliver expenses at or below targets
  • Prepare and operate from an approved budget
  • Manage from approved policies and procedures
  • Understanding of hospital purchasing and reimbursement procedures

Revenue Generation  
  • Collaborate closely with all Board members, staff and volunteers to ensure a coordinated, donor focused approach to gift opportunities
  • Lead the planning, cultivation, solicitation and recognition of fund-raising appeals including annual, major, corporate and planned gifts
  • Monitor the day-to-day operations of the foundation to maintain or improve quality
  • Conduct regular outcome evaluation, data analysis and report production to track program effectiveness
  • Develop and deliver consistent fundraising messages
  • Lead the planning, development, and delivery of capital campaigns from time to time.

Human Resources
 
  • Recruit and train competent staff
  • Act as a role model and mentor to staff and volunteers
  • Maintain staff performance standards and quarterly reviews staff performance and goal setting

 
Board Governance & Planning 
  • Support an active, high‐performing Board of Directors and participate actively in board recruitment, retention and recognitio
  • Identify, assess, and inform the Board of Directors of internal and external issues that affect DHF
  • Maintain a positive, open and supportive relationship with the Board of Directors
  • Meet regularly with the Board Chair for updates, planning, and communication
  • Participate with the Board of Directors in achievement of the foundation’s vision and strategic plan, directing and overseeing short and long term goals

Marketing & Community Relations
 
  • Advance and sustain the foundation’s brand in everything the foundation does in the community
  • Lead efforts to position the foundation as the charity of choice in Delta
  • Represent the foundation as a community leader, participating strategically in community based organizations and events, all with the view of advancing the foundation’s interests in the community
  • Maintain a strong partnership with the Delta Hospital and Fraser Health’s leadership
  • Act as a spokesperson in addressing the community’s interest in the role of Delta Hospital

Required Knowledge & Skills
  • Strong leadership and change management skills
  • Outstanding relationship building skills
  • Proven human and volunteer engagement skills including the ability to coach and mentor others to build capacity
  • A minimum of 8 years experience in successful fund development with a solid understanding of all fund development vehicles and a proven record of high performance in major gift closing
  • Experience with at least one successful capital campaign that met or exceeded goals
  • Familiarity with key supporters of the organization
  • Familiarity with philanthropy in the Greater Vancouver area
  • CFRE (beneficial but not essential)
  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge and Simply Accounting an asset
