A sizzling final round of six under 65 gave Marine Drive's Cam McKenzie top honours at the 2009 Envision Financial Beach Grove Amateur. This annual tournament has established itself as a premier event and is on the playing schedules of many in B.C.'s finest golfers. This year's Amateur was no different and produced another exciting finish.

McKenzie's memorable final 18 enabled him to finish at 3-under in the 36-hole event and edge out U.S. amateur Lucas Bogdan of Ledgeview and Point Grey's Ryan Mulhern. Beach Grove's own Brett Standerwick was alone in fourth with a 145 total after rounds of 70 and 75.

This was the fourth-year of partnership between Envision Financial and the Beach Grove Amateur, which also serves as a fund raiser for the Delta Hospital Foundation. Thanks to Envision Financial's support, this year's event generated over $13,000.

"Envision Financial has been a tremendous partner and without their support the tournament wouldn't able to support this very worthy cause in our community," says Brent Derrheim -- Beach Grove's Head Golf Professional. "Over the past four years the Amateur has donated over $50,000."

Another highlight of the weekend was Beach Grove member Rick Woolley draining a hole-in-one on the par 3 13th which earned which earned him a new car courtesy of Richmond Honda.

The participants and Tournament Committee thank Phil Ethier from Richmond Honda for his generous support and sponsoring the hole-in-one for the tournament.

Tournament chair Jim Froese has made it his mandate to attract some of the stronger players in the Lower Mainland to this event, but most importantly wants to ensure players feel welcome when they visit Beach Grove Golf Club and the community.
