 Delta Hospital Foundation Cancer Care Fund

August, 2011 – The Delta Hospital Foundation has created a new designated fund, the Cancer Care Fund. The fund will provide dedicated funding to early detection and the purchase of diagnostic equipment for the care, treatment, and education of cancer patients. Today, the Fund has over $288,000 devoted to cancer care at Delta Hospital.


To provide better health care to the residents of Delta for cancer screening and diagnosis, the Cancer Care Fund will grow and change with the needs of the community and the hospital. “[The Cancer Care Fund] is designed to be a living fund”, said Lois Wilkinson, Delta Hospital Foundation chair of the board. “It will grow and change as the needs of this community and this hospital evolve”. With new and state-of-the-art equipment constantly developing, the Delta Hospital Foundation will continue to raise money to provide the best equipment and health care for patients.


The Cancer Care Fund was officially kicked off at the Foundation’s 12th Annual Delta Health Golf Classic held June 9, 2011. The first two contributions to the Fund were corporate donations made by the Royal Bank of Canada Foundation and The Wheaton Group – who donated $10,000 and $5,000 respectively. The current total reflects all money raised at the golf tournament and sponsorship currently pledged to the 13th Annual Moonlight Gala. On September 17, 2011, the gala will also focus all its fundraising on cancer care.


Delta Hospital continues to provide excellence in cancer care for its patients. With the generous funding of local residents, the Delta Hospital Foundation helped build an endoscopy suite in 2009. Last year, over 4200 procedures were performed in the suite helping to diagnose colorectal cancer - one of the leading types of cancer in Canada. Additionally, Delta Hospital is the number two ranked hospital in Fraser Health for women’s cancer screenings. Both the Mammography and Cervical Cancer Screening programs are over 50% participation rate for target age groups.
