The Delta Hospital Foundation is pleased to announce its 3rd annual Walk for Health will be held on Saturday April 30th at 10 am. A community walkathon fundraiser for Delta Hospital, the Walk for Health over 250 enthusiastic walkers participated in 2010 and raised $57,000. Taking place on Delta Hospital grounds, the day also features a warm up with Certified Personal Trainer Shannon Wood of Muscle Memory, live music by Celtic folk band Doghouse, face painting by local pathfinders, and dedication doves within the Forest for our Future.  

Presenting sponsor MK Delta Lands is excited to take part for the third year by matching pledges dollar for dollar up to $25,000 which will double everyone’s fundraising efforts. With a goal of $62,000 set for 2011, this non-competitive event hopes to have over 300 walkers collecting pledges towards their choice of 2, 5 or 10 kilometer distances.

New to the Walk for Health in 2011 are the dedication doves. Located in Delta Hospital’s new Forest for our Future, the dedication doves are an opportunity for participants to honour friends and family. By hanging a dove with the name of a loved one within the branches, participants can honour their life, memory, or their relationship.

Jackey Zellweger, Delta Hospital Foundation’s Events Coordinator, is thrilled to see the event through, “It’s my first year and first event with the Foundation. The initial two years of the Walk for Health have been so successful and I am excited to add to its success. It’s an opportunity for the community to come together for the hospital and having fun too”.

All participants must register in advance and pledges should be collected well before the event. Registration itself is free, with all walkers receiving commemorative ‘lap cards’ which are punched for each kilometer completed. Participants can register as individuals or as part of a team. Prizes will be awarded to top individual pledges, highest amounts of pledges, as well as top fundraising team.
