Jan 2009 - Hospital Foundation Donates to Hospice

Delta Hospital Foundation executive director Teresa Cooper (left) presented Nancy Macey, her Delta Hospice Society counterpart, with a cheque for more than $16,000.
Delta Hospital Foundation executive director Teresa Cooper was pleased to present just over $16,000 to Nancy Macey, executive director of the Delta Hospice Society, last week.
The donated funds to the Delta Hospital Foundation were specifically requested to be directed towards palliative care. Because the hospice society will soon have a specialized facility for end-of-life care, the foundation believed it was appropriate to re-direct these funds to the Delta Hospice building fund.
The Delta Hospice Society, which provides a comprehensive program of palliative care and support services, is in the process of building a 10-bed hospice residence and supportive care centre adjacent to Delta Hospital.
"Working to provide the best in health care for our community is our principal goal," said Cooper. "We are very pleased to see that these funds will be used specifically for palliative care as they were requested."
"We truly appreciate this donation towards enhancing palliative care services," said Macey. "The Delta Hospital Foundation is one of many community partners that recognize the tremendous need for these new facilities and services."
Delta Hospice has raised just over 75 per cent of the capital for the project over the last year. Construction began in November and the intended completion date is early 2010.
