Ladner Legion hits milestone with recent gift to Delta Hospital

Delta, January 10, 2012 – The Royal Canadian Legion #61 reaches giving milestones with its recent gift of $10,000 to the Delta Hospital Foundation. Since 1993, the Ladner Legion has donated over $100,000 to the Hospital helping purchase vital equipment for the community. This recent gift will purchase a phaco hand piece – a tool used to help remove cataracts.

Ladner Legion members Don McPhadyen, George Koka and Jacky Hillairet presented the Foundation with a cheque for $10,000 to purchase the vital equipment necessary for cataract surgery – a medical condition that grows prevalent as we age. Since 1993, the Ladner Legion has helped purchase equipment for Mountain View Manor and the Emergency Room, as well as the CT scanner; helping to keep Delta’s veterans and their families healthy.

“The Foundation is so fortunate to have the Ladner Legion dedicated to this community’s health”, said Teresa Cooper, Delta Hospital Foundation Executive Director. “This most recent gift marks an important milestone in their relationship with the hospital and the support they give to our veterans.   But this gift is just one piece of the Legion’s generosity to Delta. It’s almost impossible to look at this community’s growth without thinking about all the time and resources that the Legion gives”.

Delta Hospital’s ophthalmologists perform more than 600 surgical procedures annually to remove cataracts. Cataracts occur over time when the natural lens in the eyes breaks and becomes cloudy. They cause blurred or dim vision and sensitivity to light – leaving a person with limited sight and a loss of independence as it begins to interfere with their daily activities.

Since 1928, the Royal Canadian Legion #61 has supported the community though various fundraising and volunteer programs. With a commitment to veterans, their families and their community, the Ladner Legion provides over $60,000 annually helping to fund various local organizations and initiatives.

The Delta Hospital Foundation is the community partner for quality health care in Delta. The Foundation raises funds to provide access to the best medical services close to home. Since 1988, Delta Hospital Foundation has raised over $23 million. Learn more at www.deltahospital.com.
