June 2009 - Delta Health Golf Classic a Success
Delta Hospital Foundation Past-Chair Bruce Warren gets a quick health check by hospital staff
The Delta Hospital Foundation’s Delta Health Golf Classic tournament on May 28 raised over $146,000 for the hospital. The day’s conditions were perfect at the host course, King’s Links by the Sea, with the tournament selling out again in this 10th year of the annual fundraiser.
Presented by the Delta Fire Fighters Charitable Society, the tournament ended with dinner emceed by ‘Bro Jake’ Edwards from Rock 101 and was capped off by a great live auction by Ian Paton. The most popular auction item was the “Top Gun” once in a life-time flight in a L-39ZA Albatross jet which went for an astounding $9,000.
The funds raised this year will go towards new arthroscopic equipment for wrist and ankle surgery. Delta Hospital is fast becoming a centre of excellence in this type of day-surgery, which is often needed as a result of damage done to ligaments through trauma or sports-related injuries.
UPDATE!
Arthroscopy of the wrist and ankle is used to investigate and treat symptoms of repetitive strain injury, fractures of the wrist or ankle, and torn or damaged ligaments. It can also be used to ascertain joint damage caused by arthritis.

We recently stopped by to visit Dr. Lu, orthopaedic surgeon, and his OR team at Delta Hospital. The equipment purchased in the fall of 2009 included small fragment and hand modular systems which are essential instrumentation sets for small bone trauma. Prior to this purchase, patients with these types of injuries had to be sent away to other hospitals to be treated.
The new equipment also includes towers to stabilize the wrist and ankle areas will allow our doctors better vision and isolation of the area being treated. This also gives the patient a much greater degree of comfort.
On behalf of Delta Hospital, Dr. Lu would like to express his gratitude to all those involved with the 2009 Delta Health Golf Classic. This equipment will allow them to provide a new health service at Delta Hospital and the best health care possible.
