June 2011 - 2011 Robert T. Reynolds Memorial Scholarship Awarded

June 1, 2011 – The Delta Hospital Foundation is pleased to announce Kajsa Cuthbert, a grade 12 student from Delta Secondary School, as the 2011 Robert T. Reynolds Memorial Scholarship recipient. In a ceremony at the Foundation office on May 30th with her parents Bruce and Kerry, Cuthbert was awarded the annual scholarship. Mrs. Georgina Reynolds, wife of the late Robert T. Reynolds, also attended the presentation.

One of Delta Hospital Centennial Society’s first Chairmen and a member of Delta municipality’s pioneer families, Robert T. Reynolds made outstanding contributions to the community and dedicated much of his time and energy towards obtaining a hospital for Delta. His ‘call to arms’ in 1976 for the residents of Delta to join the Society along with his dedication and perseverance in the face of many obstacles were major factors in Delta Hospital becoming a reality.

Cuthbert’s dedication to Delta and the greater global community exemplifies Reynolds’ perseverance.  Her dedication to local and international organizations has made her an ideal candidate for the Robert T. Reynolds Memorial Scholarship. She is the elected Grad Council president and an honorary executive board member for Delta Youth Support Line. Most recently she’s worked with both the International Friendship Association and Invisible Children to help the lives of youth in Nicaragua and Uganda respectively. Her leadership role within these organizations has placed her on a path of both enormous compassion and influence.

Cuthbert has been invited to study at the Bader International Study Centre at Queen’s University in Sussex England – a prestigious program dedicated to understanding international issues and diverse cultures. Though she has not decided upon a discipline, Cuthbert’s initiative and drive will have a lasting legacy on Delta and perhaps the global community at large. “I’m moving out of my comfort zone to challenge myself,” Cuthbert stated. “I want to find the knowledge to make a difference”.
A scholarship of $1,000 is awarded annually in recognition of Robert T. Reynolds’ exemplary service to his community. The scholarship is open to all grade 12 students residing in Delta who intend to undertake post-secondary education. An applicant’s success is measured on their participation in extra-curricular activities, community volunteerism and academic achievement.

The Delta Hospital Foundation thanks all scholarship applicants and wishes them the very best in their post-secondary education and career aspirations.
