March 2010 - Delta Hospital Walk for Health 2010 Date Announced

The Delta Hospital Foundation is pleased to announce its 2nd annual Walk for Health will be held on Sunday May 2 at 10 am. A community walkathon fundraiser for Delta Hospital, over 280 enthusiastic walkers participated in 2009 and raised $64,500. Taking place on Delta Hospital grounds, the day also features live music by Celtic folk band Doghouse, a BBQ by the LBA, face painting and health fair.
 
Presenting sponsor MK Delta Lands is excited to take part for the second year by matching pledges dollar for dollar up to $25,000 which will double everyone’s fundraising efforts. With a goal of $70,000 set for 2010, this non-competitive event hopes to have over 350 walkers collecting pledges towards their choice of 2, 5 or 10 kilometer distances.
 
Walk for Health will also feature a Health, Wellness and Fitness fair, which is open to any  community-minded businesses that wish to demonstrate their services to the public. As well, hospital departments will also set up booths and be on hand during the fair to promote hospital awareness. Healthy snacks will be provided to participants courtesy of Thrifty Foods.
 
Besides helping to promote fitness and health in the community, Walk for Health is a great way to socialize with friends while getting a little fresh air. “Last year turned into an incredible success and was a lot of fun for everyone that came out”, said Neil Corbett, the foundation’s communications coordinator and event organizer. “The atmosphere was electric and the community really came together to support the hospital.”
 
All participants must register in advance and pledges should be collected well before the event. Registration itself is free, with all walkers receiving commemorative ‘event passports’ which are stamped for each kilometer completed. Participants can register as individuals or as part of a team. Prizes will be awarded to all top fundraisers, as well as top team and team spirit prizes.
