May 2011 - 3rd Annual Walk for Health Raises $50, 000

On Saturday April 30, over 230 participants took part in the 3rd Annual Delta Hospital Foundation Walk for Health. Lois Wilkinson, Delta Hospital Foundation Chair of the Board, and Presenting Sponsor’s Joanne Barnett, MK Delta Lands Group President, were delighted that this community raised over $50,000 for the hospital.
The event had walkers complete distances of 2, 5 or 10 kilometres who enjoyed sunshine and a terrific turn-out of family and friends all of whom cheered the walkers on and celebrated life with tribute doves in the Forest for our Future.

A spirited warm-up by Muscle Memory and Incredible Fitness got things started while local Celtic and folk band Doghouse created a festive atmosphere. Participants enjoyed their walk around Delta Hospital grounds and also took in a variety of other activities. For the kids a booth was provided by Nurse Next Door which included face painting, popcorn, colouring, and temporary tattoos. West Coast Amusements brought along the Planet Rock ‘n’ Roll ride, and participants also received a delicious chili lunch provided by Thrifty Foods.

Many teams entered the walk, with the ‘Oh Johnny’ team raising the most funds at over $2,300. The team was walking in honour of Johnny Zellweger, their grandfather, a long time resident of Ladner. Oh Johnny won a $250 catered party supplied by Thrifty Foods. The top individual was Caroline Bremner who raised over $400 and the person with the most pledges was Dylan Pallister. Both won $100 worth of gift certificates from the Town & Country and Thrifty Foods.

Delta Hospital Foundation Events Coordinator Jackey Zellweger could not have been happier with the results. With the initial

 

 goal set at $45,000, the day was a huge success. “We’re very fortunate to have an extremely supportive community when it comes to our hospital and everyone really got behind this fun event”, says Zellweger. “Our presenting sponsor MK Delta Lands was very generous and matched $25,000 in participant’s funds.”

All the monies raised will go towards the Hospital’s Greatest Needs – a fund dedicated to purchasing much needed equipment. The Delta Hospital Foundation is the community partner for

 quality health care. It raises funds so the community has access to the best medical services close to home. Since 1988, Delta Hospital Foundation has raised over $22 million.
