Nov 2010 - Riverside Dental and Local Kids Raise $1500 for Delta Hospital
This is that second year Riverside Dental has held ‘Cash For Candy’ and Dr. Raj Dhiman’s hopes that it would catch on were definitely fulfilled. “Last year we raised $750 for the Delta Hospital Foundation”, said Dr. Dhiman. “But this year we doubled that. The response was overwhelming and the generosity of the kids was astounding. One child donated the money he was to receive for his candy to the hospital, rather than keeping it for himself.
This fundraising initiative was all in the name of cavity prevention. Dhiman wanted to send a positive message to Delta’s kids and encourage fewer sugary snacks, and with 210 pounds of candy collected, that message appears to be working. “Oral health is important at all ages. Regular visits to a dental office starting at an early age and cutting back on one’s consumption of sweets can prevent problems later in life”, stated Dhiman. “Halloween is a perfect time to get children thinking about their oral health and if the huge response to our campaign was any indication, Delta children definitely are on the right track of understanding the importance”.
Dr. Dhiman and staff would like to thank Ladner Safeway for donating the use of their scale during this event.
The candy collected during the campaign has been donated to the Monarch House in New Westminster and the Attire Women’s Resource Society in South Surrey, which are both shelters for women and their children.
‘Hospital’s Greatest Needs’ is a fund that provides immediate assistance, through the purchase of equipment or training, to the hospital in an emergency situation.
