13th Annual Moonlight Gala A Roarin’ Success:
Raises $290,000 Towards Cancer Care Fund
September 21, 2011 - Over 200 guests at the Delta Hospital Foundation’s 13th annual Moonlight Gala, September 17 hosted at Sacred Heart School, raised $290,000 for the Foundation’s 1920s inspired event presented by Envision Financial. After the enormous success of the gala, an anonymous donor came forward with a donation to raise the initial evening’s total of $260,000 to $290,000.
Arriving guests truly ‘Put on the Ritz’ as they welcomed back in time by swingin’ volunteers. The theme encouraged guests to taste flavours from the decade in an elegant champagne reception and dinner. The incredible transformation of Sacred Heart’s 5,400 square foot facility was a spectacular backdrop as guests walked about the ‘Galeries Lafayette’ with over 100 silent auction items as well as an exciting live auction by auctioneer Delta Councilor Ian Paton.
Presenting sponsor Envision Financial’s Bev Brown spoke of their commitment and support for community organizations like the Delta Hospital Foundation. This marks the second year that Envision Financial has supported the gala as the presenting sponsor.
Master of Ceremonies, Paula Hill, entertained everyone with her unique brand of humor. She brought to mind, as a resident, that Delta is an extremely caring community that recognizes the importance of such causes as the hospital.
The annual signature event is the Foundation’s largest fundraiser of the year. The gala exceeded its goal of $250,000 to support the Delta Hospital Foundation Cancer Care Fund – a newly designated fund dedicated to excellence in early detection and the purchase of diagnostic equipment for cancer patients.
The excitement of the evening hit its highest point with the presentation of the cheque to the Delta Hospital Foundation chair, Lois Wilkinson, by the ecstatic Gala chair, Sarah Toigo. "I am very pleased with the outcome of the evening," said Toigo. "We surpassed our goal. Delta is a very lucky community to have such dedicated volunteers and residents who make these events so successful."
